Guidance on using Royal Names and Titles in Diamond Jubilee year issued

29 Sep 2011 12:24 PM

Applications are now open for the commemorative use of Royal names and titles for community events, buildings and projects for Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee, which takes place next year.

A blanket approval is in place for the use of “Diamond Jubilee” and “Jubilee” for non-commercial purposes.

Anyone wishing to use phrases such as ‘Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee,’ ‘Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee,’ or ‘The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee’ to name a community hall,  commemorative garden or other building/ project, will need to apply for permission to do so.

The rules for the use of Royal names and titles were also relaxed in the run up to the Golden Jubilee in 2002. They were used for a wide range of projects including the Golden Jubilee National Hospital in Clydebank, Scotland; the Golden Jubilee Gospel Choir (which took part in the Jubilee Weekend celebrations) and Easingwold Community Primary School in York who named their new teaching block “The Golden Jubilee rooms”.

Information about how to apply can be found at the Directgov website.
