Health projects among groups benefitting from latest round of National Lottery funding

A befriending project for young people with learning disabilities and fitness equipment to improve the health of people who have suffered heart attacks are among Welsh projects sharing in funding announced yesterday by the Big Lottery Fund

A total of 16 community-based projects across Wales share in the £51,914 awarded under the latest round of the Awards for All small grants programme A full list of project descriptions is available here.

Thanks to their award of £2,242, Student Volunteering Cardiff will pilot the Stepping Stones befriending project in the city while Fairwater Cardiac Rehabilitation Group in nearby Cwmbran will use £2,800 to replace exercise equipment used by members to improve their heart health and fitness levels.

Other health projects benefitting include Llanrhidian Higher Community Sports Association which will use £2,500 to give first aid training to 40 people and Bridgened People First which will spend £3,800 on a conference to promote the benefits of employing people with aspergers syndrome of autism.

In west Wales, Borth Family Centre gets £5,000 to provide health and well-being sessions for parents and children while in north Wales, Cyngor Cymuned Bryngwran received £984 for a community fun day.

Money is helping to establish groups, societies and clubs, promoting learning, increasing volunteering opportunities and helping to build stronger communities.”
