Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is to use its own
investigators to examine the circumstances surrounding a fatal
road traffic incident in Bromley last night (Saturday 23 August).
At approximately 9pm a marked police vehicle was in a collision
with a female pedestrian in Homesdale Road near the junction with
Gundulph Road, Bromley.
The London Ambulance Service and the Helicopter Emergency Medical
Service (HEMS) attended but the 61 year old woman was pronounced
dead at the scene.
The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) referred the matter the
IPCC which deployed investigators to the scene during the night.
The police vehicle's data recording system has been
downloaded and will be analysed over the weekend.
Mike Franklin, IPCC Commissioner, said:
"I send my deep sympathies to the family of the deceased at
this difficult time. The IPCC will carry out a thorough
investigation into the circumstances of this tragic incident."
A post-mortem is scheduled to take place today and an inquest
will be opened in due course.
The woman, who is believed to be local, is yet to be formally identified.
