Inspectorate of Prosecution in Scotland

The Inspectorate of Prosecution in Scotland published its fourth Annual Report today.
The report comments on the work of the independent Inspectorate of Prosecution in Scotland (IPS) for the year to the end of May 2009.
HM Chief Inspector Joe O'Donnell said:
"The fourth Annual Report of the Inspectorate of Prosecution in Scotland outlines the work to date. During the period two further comprehensive Area Inspection Reports were completed and a thematic report on Summary Justice Reform concerning the use of Fiscal Fines.
"The Annual Report also considers the implications of the Public Services Reform (Scotland) Bill, the Equalities Bill and highlights potential further development of self assessment methods to inform inspection activity in area and district offices."
The future work of the Inspectorate will include:
- a report on the use of Compensation Offers and Combined Compensation Offers/Fiscal Fines as part of Summary Justice Reform.
- work with HM Inspector of Constabulary on sexual offences and treatment of victims
- further area inspections
- work to develop self assessment methodologies
The Inspectorate of Prosecution in Scotland (IPS) is the independent Inspectorate for the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS). The IPS was established in 2003.
The principal functions of the IPS are to secure the inspection of the operation of COPFS and to report to the Lord Advocate on any matter connected with the operation of COPFS which the Lord Advocate refers to it.
The Inspectorate of Prosecution in Scotland (IPS) reports directly to the Lord Advocate with its recommendations.
