Hi

Is safety lost within waste management.

4 May 2010 08:40 AM

RoSPA is running the third in a series of events on Health and Safety in Waste Management. This leading event is supported by both the Chartered Institute of Waste Management and the Waste Management Industry Training and Advisory Board.

Fatalities in the waste industry are ten times the national average, with accident rates at four times the national average.

To help to lower these figures RoSPA will be bringing nationally recognised speakers from Waste Industry Safety and Health Forum, HSE and RoSPA to give practical advice and guidance on key issues including work place transport, worker engagement, managing occupational road risk, corporate manslaughter and managing contractors.

Conference overview

The event starts with a welcome by the Chair Tom Mullarkey MBE, Chief Executive, RoSPA, followed by a Keynote Address from Chris Jones, Director of Risk Management and Compliance, Cory Environmental.

Topics being covered throughout the day include:

 • Procuring and Managing Waste Services;
 • Slips, Trips and Falls and PPE;
 • Managing Occupational Road Risk;
 • Mobile Workplace Transport;
 • Occupational Health Strategy;
 • Learning from Safety Failure;
 • Corporate Manslaughter;
 • Waste Industry Safety and Health Forum (WISH).
