Met Police Station Reception Officers Suspend Strike Action

A planned one day strike on Monday 28 January by approximately 200 Station Reception Officers working for the Metropolitan Police has been suspended following the offer of talks, PCS announced last week.
The union suspended the strike action for up to four weeks after securing talks in a dispute over plans which will see the role of Station Reception Officers axed and filled by PCSOs, whose role the union believes is to support Police Officers out on the streets.
Commenting, Sevi Yesilldali, PCS group president for the Met Police, said: "Management have recognised the resolve of members by agreeing to talks. We will now be looking for a negotiated outcome which recognises the important and unique role that Station Reception Officers play."
Mark Serwotka, PCS general secretary added: "We welcome the move by Met Police management to seize the opportunity of reaching a negotiated outcome. However they should be in doubt of the resolve of members who have shown they are prepared to take strike action to protect their jobs."
