A Metropolitan Police Officer is to face prosecution following an investigation managed by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
Police Sergeant Adam Leak (age 30), who is based on Hammersmith and Fulham Borough, has been summonsed to appear before Feltham Magistrates’ Court on Monday 13 September 2010 to face a charge of common assault, following a decision by the Crown Prosecution Service.
The charge relates to an incident at Fulham Police Station on 31 January 2010 when, it is alleged, the officer used excessive force to restrain a prisoner.
The allegations came to light after two police officers raised concerns. The case was referred to the IPCC on 17 February 2010 and a decision was taken that the IPCC would manage an investigation by the Metropolitan Police Service’s Directorate of Professional Standards.
