“Wales is a small country that prides itself in having a rich mix of cultures and traditions, which together make us a diverse society, with strong communities. I am proud that Wales is a country that recognises and celebrates diversity, and enables people to feel valued members of society.

“Everyone in Wales should feel that they are able to make a contribution that will be recognised and welcomed. Whatever background you come from, whatever your sexual orientation or gender identity, we believe that you should have the same opportunities as everyone else.

“Unfortunately, discrimination still exists, from homophobic bullying in our schools to unacceptable incidents of hate crime. Too many lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people face prejudice because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. I am committed to challenging and changing attitudes that can lead to discrimination, wherever it occurs.

“This summer I plan to launch a consultation on the Welsh Government’s draft Hate Crime Framework for Action. We will not tolerate hate crime in any of its forms.”
