NLIS LOOKS TO EXPAND ON ELECTRONIC SERVICE DELIVERY

5 May 2009 12:07 PM

Land Data, the NLIS regulator, has today announced that following a review of the current National Land Information Service (NLIS) Hub licence agreement with MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd (MDA), it has agreed to revised terms in order to support NLIS and MDA through the current property sector downturn.

As the property sector comes to terms with the end of the Home Information Packs (HIP) transitional arrangements, requiring changes to the first day of marketing arrangements as well as the removal of insurance provisions for private search firms, Land Data will continue to work closely with the NLIS Hub, run by MDA, to maintain NLIS’ position at the forefront of electronic land and property information.

Jan Boothroyd, Land Data CEO comments: “We are investigating ways for NLIS to provide new and enhanced delivery services to the industry. The property searches landscape is changing and we need to ensure the industry can look to NLIS for fast and adaptable packages of high quality search information.”

Land Data is also investigating the potential for creating an industry search standard in the form of an official ‘kite mark’ which could be applied to all official property searches.

Notes to Editors

Land Data regulates NLIS, which was set up to support local authorities (LAs) and other property information holders in England and Wales in their move from manual to electronic provision of property information services. The NLIS Hub is connected to all local authorities in England and Wales, Land Registry, the Coal Authority and other sources of land and property information. The information is distributed by NLIS Channels to around 15,000 subscribed solicitors and licensed conveyancers. Since it began operation in 2001 more that 16.7 million searches have been processed by the NLIS Hub. Land Data became a Community Interest Company in January 2006 in recognition of its commitment to making electronic property search information accessible to the general public and thereby improving the home buying process.
