Four new
non-executive members take up their positions on the HMCS Board
today. Each non-executive board member has been appointed for
three years.
Announcing the appointments, Sir Ron De Witt, HMCS Chief
Executive said: "I am delighted with these new appointments
to the Board. Each new member will bring new perspectives,
experiences and skills to HMCS. The Board will work to ensure that
HMCS continues to develop a court service fit for the 21st century."
The new non-executive board members are:
Faith Boardman. An Associate of the National School of
Government, Office of Government Commerce, Society of Local
Authority Chief Executives and Whitehall and Industry Group and
sits on the Social Policy Forum, the Audit Committee of the
Prisons Service and Public Management and Policy
Association's Board. Previously she was CEO at Lambeth
Council; and a member of the Board of the Department of Work and
Pensions where she was CEO at both the Child Support Agency and
the Contributions Agency. She began her career in the Treasury
Departments working on fiscal and economic policy for 13 years
before becoming Head of HR and management development for Customs
and Excise and later a regional CEO.
Kenneth Ludlam. A qualified accountant who worked for Hanson PLC
for 27 years holding the posts of Deputy Financial Controller,
Treasurer, Group Chief Accountant, Associate Director and Head of
Internal Audit and Risk Management. Since retiring from Hanson he
has taken up a number of appointments including: non-executive
director of the Armed Forces Personnel Administration Agency;
non-executive member of the Cabinet Office Audit & Risk
Committee; non-executive chair of the Audit Committee and a member
of the management board of the QEII Conference Centre.
Kevin King. Has since 2004, been a non-executive director for
the Northern Ireland Court Service, Chair of the Audit/Risk
Committee and a member of the Service's Modernisation Board.
He currently runs his own consultancy, which specialises in
assisting companies with the redesign of their business delivery
capabilities. Before that he was a MD in VISION Consulting, a
business change and Technology consultancy, where he was
responsible for the NI and London markets.
Maggie Semple. Chief Executive Officer and a Director of The
Experience Corps Ltd (TEC) and Director of Blue Ocean Solutions
Ltd. She was previously Director of the Learning Experience at the
New Millennium Experience Company Ltd; Director of Education and
Training at the Arts Council of England; a teacher; school
inspector; and a deputy head teacher. She serves on a number of
boards, is a Civil Service Commissioner and has served on a number
of Government and EU task groups including: DfEE National
Curriculum; DfEE Widening Participation; DfEE Life-long Learning;
and DfES e-learning.
NOTES
1. Her Majesty's Courts Service is an executive agency of
the Department for Constitutional Affairs (DCA). Its purpose is to
deliver justice effectively and efficiently to the public. It is
responsible for the management of the Civil, Family and Criminal
courts in England and Wales.
2. The appointments can be extended up to a maximum six-year term.
3. The HMCS Board meets quarterly.
4. The new appointments join the existing non-executive members
Lord Justice Leveson (Senior Presiding Judge for England and
Wales) and Mee Ling Ng.
