A group of projects conducted by the Collections Trust, aimed at encouraging arts engagement online, has been given a £6.5 million boost by the European Commission.

The funding boost means the Trust, in collaboration with museums and libraries throughout Europe, can bring many historic artefacts to life in the digital world.

Europeana Inside, an arts development group, will receive around £3.1 million of that cash to create software which makes it easier for cultural organisations to handle how they share internet collections.

The Trust will also give Partage Plus £2.5 million to upload European art nouveau items and architecture online. Altogether 75,000 historic products, as well as 2,000 3D versions, will be put up for arts lovers to view on the web.

Nick Poole, Collections Trust Chief Executive, said: 'This new investment by the European Commission represents a milestone in the Collections Trust's international strategy and a huge opportunity to help museums, archives and libraries bring the richness of their collections to online audiences.'
