Online help for war veterans

War veterans are surfing the web to boost job and training opportunities as a result of a Government-backed IT facility.

An IT resource centre, the first of its kind in Scotland, has been opened in Whitefoord House in Edinburgh, run by Scottish Veterans' Residences (SVR).

It enables veterans to access the internet for job seeking, employment advice, education and training.

SVR has secured £7,500 pounds from the Scottish Government's Scottish Veterans Fund towards the costs of the project.

Housing and Communities Minister Alex Neil said:

"This Government is determined to do all it can to support our brave war veterans, including striving to help veterans organisations to provide the best facilities for their ex service men and women.

"A third of Whiteford House residents are of working age, which is why the IT centre will be an invaluable resource, particularly for those looking for work, education or training."

Scottish Veterans' Residences is Scotland's oldest ex-Service charity, founded in 1910. Each year it helps some 300 ex-service men and women and their spouses.
