PCS seeks Inverness meeting with Danny Alexander

PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka has written to chief secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander to seek a meeting in his Inverness constituency next Monday (23).

Mark will be attending Scottish TUC congress in Inverness and has requested to meet the local MP along with a small delegation of his constituents to discuss civil service pay, jobs and in particular pensions.

Mark said: "We very much want to talk to Mr Alexander about the shocking impact of his government’s decisions on PCS members living and working in his own constituency."

At the end of this month civil servants across Scotland and the UK will pay the hard cost of the increased pension contributions that Mr Alexander and the coalition government have imposed.

April’s payslips will shock members as they begin to pay for the heavy burden of deficit reduction that they will have to carry for the rest of their working lives.

Lynn Henderson, PCS Scottish secretary, added: "Communities across Scotland, including in Inverness, face the real cost of austerity measures as family income falls with knock on consequences for local shops and other businesses - our members can’t spend money that is going straight into the hands of the Treasury either in Inverness or inner-city Glasgow.

"We call on Mr Alexander to meet us and hear first hand how coalition policies are hurting hard working public sector employees and their families."
