He said:

"Today's launch of the Tripartite Working Group DVD and website is another step forward in promoting the work of the group. The programme has been hugely successful in improving working relations between local aquaculture and wild fisheries interests throughout the West Coast and the Western Isles.

"Both the wild fishing and farmed fish industries bring vital economic benefits to both the rural areas in which they are based and wider Scottish economy. Fresh water angling tourism attracts visitors from across the world and is worth £100 million per year, whilst the farmed fish/salmon industry, generates £350 million per year to Scotland and accounts for 40 per of food exports.

"So it is crucial that key interests continue to work together as closely as possible to discuss ideas and concerns to develop a healthy sustainable future for both sectors of the Scottish industry. The TWG helps to facilitate this nationally and locally, in order to ensure healthy stocks of wild fish and farmed fish are maintained through reducing parasites, disease and escapes of farmed salmon. The TWG is now justifiably gaining international recognition and is crucial in supporting angling tourism and a vibrant aquaculture industry."
