DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH
News Release issued by The Government News Network on 8 May 2008
1) Attitudes to
Mental Illness 2) Dental Contracts
The following statistics were released today by the Department of Health:
1. Attitudes to Mental Illness in England, 2008
2. Dental
Reform Monitoring, January to March 2008
Main Findings from Attitudes to Mental Illness in England Survey, 2008
- The general public are broadly sympathetic to people with
mental health problems and community care.
- However, some attitudes towards people with mental health
problems are worse compared to when the Department of Health first
commissioned
- the poll in 1994, including two relating to
fears of patients.
- On the other hand, several attitudes that had worsened over the
period up until 1997 have since improved.
- Only two attitudes have changed significantly since last year,
both an improvement - more think people with mental illness have
been subject to ridicule for too long and less think it is easy to
tell them from 'normal people'.
Main Findings from Dental Reform Monitoring, January to March 2008
- Since the last report for the end of December, the number of
commissioned Units of Dental Activity (UDAs) has risen by 246
thousand to 79.6 million UDAs.
- A total of 2,611 disputes have now been resolved and in 2,597
of these cases, the outcome was accepted. 99 remain to be
resolved. So far 14 have ended in the dentist leaving the NHS.
