Stroke Association calls for comments on Welsh Government’s plan of action

There is one month remaining to submit comments on the Welsh Government’s plan to make Wales second to none in stroke patient experience – and the Stroke Association is urging people to have their say.

‘Together Against Stroke” is designed to ensure stroke rates in Wales are among the lowest in Europe by 2016.

Ana Palazon, Director of the Stroke Association in Wales said:

“A stroke can hit anyone at any age. While most occur in people aged 65 and over, it can strike younger people, even children and babies.  It is extremely important we get the processes right around initial recognition of stroke, reactive care and recovery.

“Take ten minutes to read the consultation and submit your comments to the Welsh Government. Take the opportunity to have your say on the future of stroke care in Wales.”

The Minister for Health and Social Services, Lesley Griffiths said:

“This is a vital document, explaining what has already been achieved in recent years, but also making clear our wider ambitions to improve services for those at risk of, or who have, a stroke over the next few years.

“Together we must do more to avoid strokes occurring. Individuals must play their part in looking after their own health.  Lifestyle choices have a significant impact on stroke rates and it is vital we bring down levels of obesity, smoking, drug and alcohol use.

“We want to focus on preventing a stroke where possible combined with achieving more prompt diagnosis and the best possible treatment. We want to deliver survival rates amongst the best in Europe and the rest of the world, with patient experiences which are second to none.”

“I urge anyone who has ever been affected by stroke to read our consultation and give us your opinions.”
