FOREIGN AND
COMMONWEALTH OFFICE News Release issued by The Government News
Network on 10 May 2008
The Foreign and
Commonwealth Office today changed its Travel Advice for Sudan.
Due to reports of JEM rebels in Kordofan, there are reports that
the rebels have launched an attack on Omdurman. Owing to the
closure of Khartoum International Airport we now advise against
all travel to Sudan. The relevant summary points now read:
"Following earlier reports of a large number of JEM rebels
in Kordofan, there are reports that rebels have launched an attack
on Omdurman, a city close to Khartoum on the west bank of the
Nile, on the afternoon of 10 May. The Government of Sudan has
imposed a curfew across Khartoum from 1700 (local time) on 10 May
to 0600 (local time). The curfew is expected to be lifted at 1000
(local time) on 11 May. The British Embassy has advised all UK
nationals to stay indoors until further notice. Khartoum
International Airport is currently closed.
We advise against
all travel to Khartoum until the situation is clearer. "
