HM REVENUE AND
CUSTOMS News Release (Ref:SPEC 07/08) issued by The Government News
Network on 1 July 2008
If you
haven't renewed your tax credits claim, you only have until
31 July to do so - otherwise, your payments will stop.
Renewing is simple - check the information in your renewals pack,
and if your circumstances have changed, such as your working hours
or pay, you'll need to let HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) know.
If you need to update your details, the quickest and easiest way
is to call the tax credits helpline on 0845 300 3900 - just make
sure you've got all the information you need to hand, like
your payslips, end of year P60 form, and details of your childcare
arrangements. The helpline is available from 8.00am to 8.00pm,
seven days a week.
Sarah Walker, HMRC Director of Benefits and Credits, said:
"If you're receiving tax credits, don't leave
renewing until the last minute. Get it sorted out now, so we can
make sure you're getting the right money."
Notes for editors
1. All tax credits claimants receive a statement of their 2007/08
award - an Annual Review Form - and must check this information.
Most claimants receive an additional form - the Annual Declaration
Form - which must be completed, either on paper or by phone.
2. Claimants on 'nil awards', and those receiving only
the full family element of Child Tax Credit, will just receive the
Annual Review Form. If these details are correct, no further
action is needed, and their claims are automatically renewed.
However, if the details on the Annual Review Form are wrong, they
must tell HMRC.
