Triennial Review of the Committee on Standards in Public Life

12 Oct 2012 11:45 AM

The Cabinet Office has yesterday published an ‘issues and questions’ paper as part of the Triennial Review of the Committee on Standards in Public Life.

The review was announced by the Minister for the Cabinet Office on 18 September.  It is being led by an independent external reviewer, Peter Riddell, Director of the Institute for Government.

Peter Riddell is keen to consult widely as part of the review and for all those with an interest in the work of the Committee to have a chance to comment on the issues and questions outlined in the paper. Responses do not need to address all of the questions.

Notes for Editors

  1. The Minister announced the start of the review in a Written Ministerial Statement on 18 September 2012.
  2. Triennial reviews of Non Departmental Public Bodies (NDPBs) are part of the Government’s commitment to ensuring that NDPBs continue to have regular challenge on their remit and governance arrangements.
  3. In common with all such reviews, Peter Riddell will undertake the following:
    a. to challenge the continuing need for this NDPB – both its functions and form; and;
    b. if it is agreed that it should remain as an NDPB, to review its control and governance arrangements to ensure that it is complying with recognised principles of good corporate governance.
  4. Peter Riddell will not be paid for his work. He will be supported by the Cabinet Office.
