Business Minister Edwina Hart has welcomed the secondment of CBI Wales Director David Rosser to work with the Welsh Government to further encourage innovation and support the role of Anchor Companies in Wales.
Mr Rosser will take up the position of Director of Innovation and Anchor Companies within the Department for Business, Enterprise, Technology and Science (BETS) from January, for an initial six month period.
Speaking ahead of today’s Council for Economic Renewal meeting, Mrs Hart said CBI Wales represented most of the country’s biggest employers and was one of the Welsh Government’s key delivery partners for Welsh businesses. She said:
“David Rosser is well-known and respected throughout the business community and brings with him a wealth of experience from working both in the private and public sector. His experience will ensure this work is private sector-led and business-focussed.
“I want David to play a key role in building on existing strong links with our anchor companies and encouraging innovative new companies to thrive and grow in Wales.
“Working alongside BETS officials and our economic sector panels, David will also have an important role of helping ensure the impacts of wider Welsh Government policies are fully understood across industry and businesses of all sizes in Wales.”
Scott Waddington, Chair of CBI Wales, said:
“This is a great chance to bring an external business perspective to the way the Welsh Government works with our major companies, and our innovative SMEs.
“We will face a challenging economy for some time to come and it is more important than ever that government and business understand each other’s needs and are pulling together. David’s longstanding relationships with Welsh business will add real value to the government and we are pleased to support him in this placement.”
David Rosser said:
“I am very much looking forward to this secondment. Businesses recognise the role of the Welsh Government in creating a competitive environment, and increasingly companies feel they have a lot to contribute in return. There is a real opportunity to create a powerful alliance and it is great to be able to help deliver that.”
