What we can learn from your learners

As part of the network, you probably know that we survey learners regularly - both through an online survey and over the telephone - to get a bit of a picture of who they are, why they have decided to improve their skills and how they have found their experience.
We’ve now got the results available for the last year, and we want to share some of the top highlights with you, which are:
- 99% of learners are satisfied with the service they receive in UK online centres. This is a fantastic statistic, and shows that the time you take to support people is really paying off. In fact, 88% of learners thought the service they received in the centre they visited was either very good or excellent, and only 1% thought it was poor.
- You’re supporting the hardest-to-reach people in your centre, with 85% of those filling in the survey meeting one or more social exclusion criteria.
- You're also supporting more unemployed learners than ever, up from 34% to 47% this year, and 33% of all referrals are coming via the local Jobcentre.
- 85% of the learners you supported had used a computer before, but the majority at only a very basic level.
- Since starting their learning, learners are definitely feeling more confident, with 91% feeling more confident about using a computer and 88% feeling more confident when using the internet.
- In terms of reasons for registering, 58% of people wanted to learn new skills in general, 54% wanted to find information online and 54% wanted to feel more confident about technology
- Following their learning, three-quarters of learners went on the access a government service online, two thirds of learners progressed to employment or better employment outcomes, and 69% have progressed to further learning.
Capturing these results are really important, but to get them we really need your help so please do encourage your learners to fill in the learner survey. Why not suggest they complete it when they’ve finished Online Basics, as they should have all the skills they need to fill in the form - plus filling it is really great practice for their new found skills.
