World Class opportunity launched in Royal Docks

22 Jul 2011 02:11 PM

The London Development Agency, in partnership with Newham Council, has today begun the formal recruitment of development partners for its Royal Docks sites at Silvertown Quays and the Royal Albert Dock.

The two sites, covering 85 acres of land, provide a unique opportunity for the successful bidders to create world class developments and shape the future of the Royal Docks.

Silvertown Quays is a pivotal site with an attractive dockside location, opposite the ExCel international exhibition centre and surrounding Pontoon Dock. The Royal Albert Dock site lies between the University of East London and Newham Dockside, the headquarters of Newham Council.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson said:

The Royal Docks is London's most exciting new development opportunity. With good transport links, the new cable car link and the arrival of Crossrail in 2018, the Royal Docks has much to offer, not least its amazing waterfront. Our vision is for Silvertown Quays and the Royal Albert Docks to become world class business and leisure destinations and we want world class investors to help us make it happen."

London Development Agency Chief Executive Lurene Joseph said:

Our vision for the Royal Docks is a place with vibrant communities with high quality homes and lasting employment. We want to find developers and investors who can turn our Silvertown Quays and Royal Albert Dock sites into thriving contemporary urban centres, attracting world-class businesses and creating first-class communities."

The Mayor of Newham Sir Robin Wales said:

Achieving convergence with the rest of London is key. What will happen here will have a local, regional, national and international impact. Importantly, attracting businesses will bring jobs for our residents. We are now starting the next stage to select development partners who will help make the Royal Docks an extraordinary place where people want to live, work, visit and stay. Investors need look no further than Newham, which has been designated as London’s regeneration priority for the next 25 years."

The selection process began today with the launch of a formal Pre-Qualification Questionnaire, published today in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU). This follows the positive response to the LDA’s invitation for 'expressions of interest', which generated responses from investors and developers around the world.

The marketing campaign is being managed by Knight Frank on Silvertown Quays and Drivers Jonas Deloitte on the Royal Albert Dock site.
