OGCBUYING.SOLUTIONS
News Release (Ref. EAU1408) issued by The Government News Network on
22 August 2008
An eAuction,
facilitated by the Office of Government Commerce (OGC), has
achieved savings of around 20% on desktop computers and
approaching 50% on laptops.
The eAuction was for 5,000 laptops and 5,000 desktop PCs.
Sponsored by OGCbuying.solutions, these items are available to all
public sector customers and specifications can be viewed at Buying
Solutions' website: http://www.ogcbuyingsolutions.gov.uk.
In addition to the base specification, there will also be a range
of upgrades available. These will also be offered at discount prices.
Terry Love, Senior Category Manager responsible for client
devices at Buying Solutions, said today:
"To say I'm pleased with the results is an
understatement. We were hoping for prices of up to 40% lower than
the current benchmark. Achieving around 50% savings for the
laptops is a phenomenal result. This will really pave the way in
helping our customers meet their savings targets."
The winner of the eAuction was Insight. Paul Bolt, UK Marketing
Director at Insight commented:
"Insight is delighted to be working with OGCbuying.solutions
and the wider public sector. We are offering high specification
Lenovo laptops and PCs at hugely competitive prices. We fully
expect this to be of interest to buyers as there is no minimum
order quantity."
Chris Chettle, ICT Commercial Delivery Manager of OGC, commented today:
"We have always been convinced of the potential for savings
through collaboration and eAuctions, and are really pleased with
these latest results. The nine eAuctions we have undertaken so far
have realised total savings of 35% - which equates to £33.3
million saved overall."

Notes to Editors
The eAuctions run by OGC are 'reverse' auctions, so
suppliers are bidding decreasing prices for the contract offered.
Tenders are assessed in advance against all relevant criteria,
from which a provisional ranking is formed. During the auction,
which is conducted online using specialist software, sellers
continually lower their prices in response to competitors'
bids. Only the buyer can see who is offering each price. After the
auction has closed, the final contract will be chosen, taking into
account both the price offered and the previous evaluation.
