BCS puts security front and centre as it achieves BSI ISO/IEC 27001 Information Security Management

BCS Learning & Development Ltd, part of the Chartered Institute for IT, has achieved BSI ISO/IEC 27001 Information Security Management.

The standard has been attained specifically by the professional certification department as part of its role in delivering over 100,000 professional certifications a year.

The department delivers professional certifications including ITIL®, PRINCE2®, Business Analysis, Security, Agile, Software Testing, etc., with the aim of helping professionals, businesses and society at large to improve their skills, competence and confidence in the field of IT.

Jon Buttriss, CEO of BCS Learning & Development Ltd explains: “In delivering professional certifications, information integrity is critical and so we decided to be conformant with ISO27001. We are delighted to have been certified by the Awarding Body - British Standards Institute (BSI). This is also a requirement of our role as an AXELOS Exam Institute and I believe we are one of the first AXELOS Examination Institutes to be certified for ISO27001.”

The standard is an internationally recognised best practice framework for an information security management system which aims to help organisations to identify the risks to its information and put in place the appropriate controls to help reduce the risk.

BSI ISO/IEC 27001 Information Security Management provides a framework for the management of information security risks, taking into account the legal and regulatory requirements of the organisation. It requires organisations to identify risks to information and put in place security measures to manage or reduce them and ensures organisations implement procedures to enable prompt detection of security breaches. It is based around continual improvement, and requires regular reviews of the effectiveness of information security management system (ISMS) and action to address new and emerging security risks.

Jon concludes: “Today, information is one of the most valuable assets of any organisation, therefore setting standards in information security is incredibly important. We want to demonstrate to our customers, members and organisations who work with us, that we take information management very seriously.”
