BCS's RITTech accreditation offers game changing career boost for the new generation
Thousands of digital apprentices now have the opportunity to kick start their career via the Registered IT Technicians (RITTech) professional standard, which was launched last year by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT.
BCS has accredited both City & Guilds and BCS Learning & Development - two of the assessors of the new trailblazer digital apprenticeships - to award RITTech as part of their assessment process. Those apprentices that qualify for RITTech at the end of their training will now be able to demonstrate to potential employers that they have met an independent professional standard.
Mandy Slaney, Industry Manager for Business & Digital, City and Guilds, says: “This accreditation offers the City & Guilds training providers running the digital apprenticeship programmes a fantastic opportunity to offer more to their students. On qualifying, the apprentices themselves can be proud that they’ve also met the professional standard set by a world class, independent body such as BCS. This is a game changer for new starters in the IT profession.”
Lucy Ireland, Deputy CEO of BCS Learning & Development, part of the Institute, adds: “It’s great news that apprentices will now be able to gain independent professional recognition of their achievements. This recognition at such an early stage in their career helps to clearly demonstrate their worth to future employers. Being able to display RITTech after their name immediately identifies them as someone who has met a professional standard and is on a career journey. In addition, having a level of accreditation to aspire to carves out a clearer career path in IT, making it a more attractive option. For employers, the RITTech register helps them recruit the right people and creates a structure that promotes professionalism in IT across the board.”
Apprentices who gain a level 4 accredited IT apprenticeship are eligible to apply for a place on the RITTech professional register, which provides a recognised benchmark of competence and enables employers to distinguish, recruit and retain professionals with the right capabilities and the right attitude. Registrants are able to demonstrate their professionalism, skills and knowledge against their chosen core technical area.
