The Department for International Development has welcomed its full ministerial team.

Lead by Secretary of State Justine Greening, the new team includes Ministers of State Desmond Swayne and Grant Shapps and Parliamentary Under Secretary of State Baroness Verma.

On her re-appointment as Secretary of State for International Development, Justine Greening said:

I am proud to continue my role as International Development Secretary.

I believe in a UK which stands tall in the world and shapes events around us. Our investment in international development can help create a world that, over time, is healthier, more stable and increasingly prosperous.

From tackling child marriage, to fighting Ebola in Sierra Leone, to providing lifesaving aid following disasters such as the recent earthquake in Nepal, UK aid is a force for good.

Improving the lives of the world’s poorest people means dealing with the root causes of problems that also affect us here in the UK, such as disease, migration, terrorism and climate change. This investment is also central to building markets for British businesses overseas and boosting growth in developing countries, which will end dependency on aid.

This is a crucial year for international development as the world is set to agree new global poverty targets, including a standalone goal on women and girls, that will guide action for years to come. I will ensure the UK remains at the forefront of this work to create a better world for us all.

On his re-appointment as Minister of State for International Development, Desmond Swayne said:

I am honoured to return to the Department for International Development and continue our vital work.

Britain’s leading role in international development is more crucial than ever. Whether responding to the devastation of recent earthquakes in Nepal, the long-running crisis in Syria or helping countries like Bangladesh or Pakistan to plan a more prosperous future, the UK is leading the way and creating a brighter future for us all.

On his appointment as Minister of State for International Development, Grant Shapps said:

I am proud to join the Department for International Development and help lead our vital work across Africa.

I believe in a UK that stands tall in the world. By tackling Ebola in Sierra Leone, helping girls get a fair chance in life, and creating growth in countries like Nigeria and Ethiopia, I look forward to showing how our commitment benefits Britain as well as other parts of the world.

On her appointment as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State Baroness Verma said:

I am delighted to join the Department for International Development as its new Parliamentary Under Secretary of State.

It is clear that British aid is making a tremendous difference in some of the world’s poorest countries. From Somalia to Sierra Leone, our work is transforming lives across the globe.

Our hugely successful Aid Match scheme has helped boost the British public’s own generous donations to different charity campaigns. I am pleased to join this effort and help create new and engaging ways we can work together to end poverty overseas.This is not only the right thing to do, it is also firmly in the UK’s own national interest.
