Manchester announced as UK IoT city demonstrator

Manchester awarded £10 million investment as part of government's internet of things investment.

As followers of IoT in the UK will know, the government announced an investment of £40 million into IoT projects and demonstrators covering the NHS and smart cities in the March budget this year, following significant lobbying by techUK and our partners in industry.

The City of Manchester has been revealed as the first recipient of this funding, having won £10 million for its smart city demonstrator.  Its project is a unique public private partnership that brings together Manchester City Council, Cisco UK, Manchester University and UK SMEs including Kiltr and Future Everything.  The project aims to use IoT to revolutionise and improve health and social care, the public realm, energy and environmental management, transport, cultural interaction and creation of communities.

You can read more about the project by clicking here. techUK will be reaching out to the main project partners early next year to ensure that our members are kept abreast of developments.
