The total value of electronics production in the UK in H1 2016 is 1% lower than in H1 2015 with demand for electronics for the domestic market currently stronger than for the export market.

Each month, techUK compile data from the UK PCB industry and compare trends with PCB sales elsewhere. PCB sales are a useful indicator for he health of UK electronics manufacturing as a whole. The total value of electronics production in the UK in H1 2016 is 1% lower than in H1 2015 with demand for electronics for the domestic market currently stronger than for the export market.

For the 12 reporting PCB fabricators in the TechUK group, the B2B ratio (including domestic and export market) fell back to 0.96 in July after a strong 1.08 in June. This fall was primarily driven by the UK market for which the B2B of 0.88 compared very poorly with a strong B2B of 1.22 for the export market.

The sales and order book data also includes product which is imported by the fabricators for resale. If these resales are excluded then the trend in actual production of PCBs in the UK is as shown in the chart below. Total production in the first seven months of 2016 is 3.2% lower than that in the same period of 2015.

This summary report contains four charts. Chart 1 shows the value and growth trends for electronics production in the UK and reflects the UK market for printed circuit boards. Charts 2, 3 and 4 are based on the monthly data received from the twelve reporting companies in the techUK PCB fabricator group. Chart 2 compares B2B for exports and domestic sales, Chart 3 shows UK sales versus exports sales and Chart
4 shows the trend in UK PCB production. The data in Chart 3 and Chart 4 has been normalized to average monthly sales in 2015.
