More than 50 UK companies showcasing innovation at Mobile World Congress.

Mobile World Congress, Barcelona – The GREAT Britain Pavilion at Mobile World Congress was a hive of innovation this year with more than 55 UK companies exhibiting at the event across 1000 square metres of space.

Nowhere was the UK's strong track record of innovation in mobile better demonstrated than the GREAT Britain Pavilion. UK companies showcased ground breaking innovation across several different sectors including hardware, apps, internet of things and location-based services.

The UK delegation of companies was one of the largest of any country at Mobile World Congress and more than 30 companies had been supported to attend the world's largest gathering of the mobile industry by the Tradeshow Access Programme (TAP), a UK Trade & Investment supported programme that enables smaller UK companies to compete at events like Mobile World Congress.

For the first time in 2015, the UK pavilion featured a GREAT Britain Pod Tech Zone. This  enabled 10 companies to exhibit at the event without the cost normally associated with a major trade exhibition.

The UK presence at Mobile World Congress was further enhanced by techUK's competition to find the best SME mobile health app. Yecco Ltd, 11health,Therapy Box and Total Mobile pitched off at Mobile World Congress for the title of Best SME Mobile Health App 2015.

On Stand 7C40, UK Trade & Investment, in association with techUK, hosted a seminar programme that was open to anyone attending Mobile World Congress. The seminar programme covered key issues in the mobile industry agenda including internet of Things, Digital Health and spectrum/capacity issues and boasted leading speakers from the UK and global companies. UKTI Commercial Officers were also on hand to guide UK start-ups on international expansion.

Stuart Revell, CTO of techUK, commented: "Mobile World Congress is rightly considered the annual meeting place for the mobile industry. Over a number of years the UK has been at the forefront of innovation in hardware, software, networking and content. This year we have also focused on healthcare – a critical area for mobile's future and one where the UK excels."

Mark Birchall, Managing Director of TradeFair, the company that organises the UK presence at Mobile World Congress said: "The UK's expertise in mobile continues to grow. This year marked one of the largest number of UK companies at Mobile World Congress since the show was launched and demonstrates the diversity of UK expertise in the sector."
