Wildlife Deals to combat poaching

At the Save Wildlife conference in The Hague recently, EU Commissioner Karmenu Vella presented the EU Action Plan Against Wildlife Trafficking. He said that it is vital to join forces against poaching and illegal trade in wild animals.

Tackling wildlife trafficking

At the Save Wildlife conference, representatives from almost 40 countries, non-governmental organisations and international organisations agreed measures to combat poaching and wildlife trafficking. These include using new technologies, taking anticorruption measures and boosting local economies in order to protect animals in the wild. Agriculture minister Martijn van Dam announced these results at the close of the conference.

Crackdown on poaching

A total of 14 Wildlife Deals were agreed at the conference. These aim to improve the protection of wild animals by cracking down on poaching, illegal trade and organised crime.
