Buying Solutions renews Commercial Catering Warewash and Kitchen Waste Management equipment framework agreement

OGCBUYING.SOLUTIONS News Release (Ref. WAR09/05) issued by The Government News Network on 9 May 2008

OGCbuying.solutions, an executive agency of the Office of Government Commerce in HM Treasury, has today announced the renewal of the framework agreement for Commercial Catering Warewash and Kitchen Waste Management equipment. This follows a rigorous competitive tender process advertised via the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU).

The new framework agreement, which became effective on the 21 April 2008 for a period of four years, is for the supply, delivery, installation and maintenance of 'Commercial Warewash Systems and Kitchen Waste Management and associated products and services'.

The evaluation process started in February 2007 and included visits to all tendering supplier premises and a viewing of their respective equipment in use in a busy working environment. This included a visit to the Emirates Stadium, home to Arsenal football team.

To improve efficiency and ensure propriety, the evaluation process has been carried out electronically via a new web based evaluation tool.

The framework agreement has been evaluated under two lots:

Lot one is for Commercial Catering Warewash Systems which includes: glasswashers, front loading or under counter dishwashers including thermal disinfection units that meet NHS guidelines, pass through or hood dishwashers again including thermal disinfection units, rack advance dishwashers, flight dishwashers, utensil or pot washers together with the granular agitation utensil washers. Under lot one, each successful supplier is able to provide a complete catering Warewash Solution including mechanical handling systems to include pre rinse units, dirties and cleans dishwasher tabling, food waste disposal via food waste macerators, tray carousels, conveyors and lifts, water conditioning units, basket, cutlery, crockery and glassware storage systems and trolleys.

* Clenaware Systems Ltd
* Dawson MMP Ltd
* Electrolux Food Service
* Hobart UK
* Meiko UK Ltd
* Winterhalter Ltd.

Lot two is for Commercial Catering Food Waste Management Systems which includes: dry waste compaction, dewatering units, in vessel composting units and vacuum waste systems.

Successful suppliers who tendered for lot two are:

* Hobart UK
* IMC Ltd

Speaking today, Chris Rees, senior category specialist for Buying Solutions Catering Group, said:

"The public sector caterer is now able to gain immediate access to compliant framework agreements that will resolve their Warewash and food waste management problems. The Buying Solutions' catering team has worked hard to provide the public sector with a food waste management and re-cycling sustainable solution utilising the latest technology. With land fill costs on the increase, the ability to utilise kitchen and food waste either as energy or composted via In Vessel composting units for use back on the land is a new and innovative solution to the waste food problem. The new framework agreement will offer Warewash answers for nursing homes that may require thermal disinfection to large hospitals with complex handling requirements and food waste management problems.

Today's Warewash equipment utilises the minimal amount of water to get the job done efficiently. This has a commensurate saving in water, electricity to heat the water and chemicals to clean and rinse. Together with heat recovery units, a new replacement Warewash system can quickly recover capital expenditure in replacing the old machine."
