Wales is committed to fighting crime of slavery, Minister tells conference

Local Government and Government Business Minister, Lesley Griffiths yesterday reaffirmed the Welsh Government’s commitment to helping victims escape slavery. Working with our partners across Wales, criminals who enslave people will be brought to justice the Minister said at a Welsh Government funded Anti-Slavery Conference in Swansea.

The Minister said:

“The Welsh Government’s aim is to make Wales hostile to slavery and provide the best possible support to the survivors of this terrible crime.

“We are making every effort to raise awareness of and eradicate this crime.  We are fortunate to have partners who are already working with us on tackling this blight on our society and we need to continue to work together towards ensuring survivors of slavery are given the help and support they need and deserve and criminals are brought to justice.”

The Minister thanked delegates for their help in tackling slavery and asked for their continued support, adding:

“Our Anti-Slavery Co-ordinator works closely with a range of different organisations to raise awareness and co-ordinate joint activities to tackle slavery.  However, he needs the continuing support of those of you here today.”

  • appointing an Anti-Slavery Coordinator to work closely with a range of different organisations to raise awareness and co-ordinate joint activities to tackle slavery;
