Boost for boiler scrappage scheme

Alex Neil, Cabinet Secretary for Infrastructure and Capital Investment today announced a further £500,000 available to households switching from poor performing boilers to a more energy efficient model.

Over 1,000 households could receive £400 towards the cost of their new boiler by phoning the Home Energy Scotland hotline.

Mr Neil said:

“We are committed to eradicating fuel poverty and reducing household carbon emissions.  One important change people can make is to install energy efficient boilers.  Over the last year, we have invested £4 million to incentivise households to replace inefficient boilers.

“Almost 12,000 households have applied for vouchers under the scheme since June 2011 and each household could make savings of up to £300 per year on their fuel bills.

“I would urge anyone thinking of renewing their old boiler to call the Home Energy Scotland Hotline and speak to the advisors who can take their application over the phone.  The scheme is operated on a first come, first served basis.”

The Home Energy Scotland hotline is 0800 512 012 and calls are free or visit EnergySavingTrust
