Ministers wish 'pob lwc' to Welsh rugby team ahead of Six Nations tournament

First Minister Carwyn Jones and Sports Minister Alun Ffred Jones have thrown their support behind the Welsh rugby team as they get set to take on England in the first match of this year’s Six Nations Tournament at Twickenham.

The First Minister said:

"As a keen rugby supporter, I’m looking forward to this year’s Six Nations tournament enormously. Twickenham is one of sport’s most prominent arenas and a Welsh win at HQ would be an unforgettable way to mark its centenary. Like many fans I was sad to see Wales miss out on last year’s title, but I hope it will inspire them to achieve greater things this year.  At least my Irish wife was happy!

"The opening game is a huge chance for Wales to put in a big performance and mark ourselves as serious contenders."

Sports Minister Alun Ffred Jones said:

"We all know what great attention we pay to the Six Nations championship in Wales and I know that the whole nation will be willing the boys on, not just on Saturday, but throughout the tournament. As well as wishing the men’s senior team all the best of luck, I’m sure everyone in Wales will want to send best wishes to Wales Women, who will be looking to defend last season’s Triple Crown, and Under-20s team, as they kick-off their campaigns this weekend."
