Views sought on boosting economic performance of the Teifi Valley

The independent Task & Finish Group exploring how Local Growth Zones could bring jobs and economic benefits to the Teifi Valley is calling for evidence from interested individuals and organisations.

The group, appointed earlier this year by Economy Minister Edwina Hart, is developing proposals based upon the innovative approach taken in Powys to explore how this model may be applied to the Teifi Valley.

The Group will consider policy options to encourage and support jobs, economic growth and offer the opportunity to test different types of interventions that are sensitive to the Valley’s local economic circumstances, growth challenges and prominent use of Welsh language.

The group will consider the approach taken in Powys as a starting point but will focus on the specific issues affecting the Teifi Valley, which includes parts of Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire.

Economy Minister Edwina Hart said:

“I would encourage all interested parties to participate in this call for evidence as it is important that stakeholders are involved and have the opportunity to help shape the proposals.”

Delyth Humfryes MBE, who is chairing the Group said:

“Local Growth Zones are being considered as an alternative model to Enterprise Zones as they can be more sensitive to the local economic circumstances and growth challenges facing the Teifi Valley.

“We want to develop a model that focuses on the issues affecting businesses in a rural area and key towns and to do this effectively we want input from as many people as possible and welcome their involvement.”
