CBI comments on publication of probation consultation

The CBI commented on the publication of plans to modernise the probation service and reform community sentences.

Matthew Fell, CBI Director, Public Services Reform, said:

“We welcome this consultation on opening up probation services.

“Commissioning services from the best of the public, private and voluntary sectors will encourage new and better ways to help reduce reoffending.

“Using a ‘payment by results’ model is an effective way to cut crime levels and deliver better value for money to taxpayers by only funding services that work.”
