Ed Balls writes to Sir Roger Singleton to ask for views on physical punishment

Secretary of State Ed Balls has today written to Sir Roger Singleton, the Chief Advisor on the Safety of Children, to ask for his initial views in the next week on the use of physical punishment in part-time educational and learning settings, in which adults may be able to rely on the defence of reasonable punishment. Mr Balls says he wants to establish a clear understanding of the issues.

Schools Minister Vernon Coaker has today written to Ann Cryer MP to explain the background and context.
