Foreign Office Minister welcomes Korean family reunions
First reunions of North & South Korean families in four years began today. A positive step bringing together those separated by conflict.
Foreign and Commonwealth Office Minister, the Rt Hon Hugo Swire MP, said:
It is a sign of hope when families torn apart are able to see one another again. Reunions on the Korean peninsula are a rare and important opportunity for families separated by the Korean War to make contact with loved ones they may not have seen for over half a century.
I offer my best wishes to the families involved and am delighted that these reunions were able to take place. These are the first such reunions since 2010 and are an important way to build trust between the two countries. I hope both sides will work together on further initiatives, and that we will continue to see progress.
