Landmark social services transformation to become law

Historic legislation has been given the go-ahead to transform care and support in Wales.

The Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Bill yesterday (Tuesday 18th March) completed its legislative passage through the National Assembly.

The Bill aims to revolutionise the way social services are delivered through an approach that is focused on achieving the outcomes which promote a person’s well-being - as an individual, as part of a family and as part of their community.

Deputy Minister for Social Services, Gwenda Thomas, said:

“It has been a real privilege to lead on the development and delivery of this Bill on behalf of the Welsh Government. This is Bill for people, with the well-being of the individual at its very heart.

“Throughout the legislative process, the Bill has been subject to robust scrutiny, and is all the better for it. We are getting closer to fulfilling our ultimate goal-  to make a real difference to the lives of those who need care and support in our society. This has only been made possible by a number of organisations working together towards this shared ambition, and I sincerely thank all of those who have played their part.

"I look forward to the Bill becoming an Act when it goes before Her Majesty the Queen for Royal Assent.”
