The National Archives' legislation.gov.uk website has been chosen from hundreds of global nominations for inclusion in the inaugural Nominet Trust 100 - a list celebrating people and organisations that are using digital technology to change the world.

The Nominet Trust believes in harnessing the power of digital technology to improve lives and communities and invests in and supports people committed to using digital technology to create social and economic value.

John Sheridan, Head of Legislation Services at The National Archives, said: 'We're delighted to be included in the 2013 Nominet Trust 100. Thanks to the internet, legislation is no longer confined to libraries or the exclusive use of lawyers. Legislation.gov.uk has opened up legislation to a completely new audience and the technologies we use are helping to make legislation easy for anyone to re-use and re-purpose.'

Legislation.gov.uk was selected from hundreds of nominations reviewed by the Nominet Trust 100 Steering Group, which this year included Lord Jim Knight, a consultant specialising in the use of technology in education and employment, Rory Cellan-Jones, a BBC technology correspondent, Madhav Chavan, a leading Indian educator, social activist and social entrepreneur, and Jeremy Heimans, Founder and CEO of Purpose.
