Minister helps to launch Domestic Abuse poster campaign

Local Government Minister Lesley Griffiths helped students at Yale College in Wrexham to launch their annual poster campaign to raise awareness of domestic abuse and violence against women.

The college works with Wrexham Women’s Aid and Wrexham Community Safety Partnership to raise awareness of domestic abuse and violence against women in the area with a series of posters designed by public service students. The theme for this year is young people and how domestic abuse affects them.

The campaign aims to address problems of domestic abuse, reduce the number of victims who suffer repeat incidents of domestic abuse, increase the number of domestic abuse incidents reported and increase the number of domestic abuse incidents which are brought to justice.

Launching the campaign, the Minister said,

“Domestic abuse and violence against women is a very high priority for the Welsh Government. We are determined to do all we can to help victims and to ensure they are supported and can live safely within their local communities.

“We too have a publicity campaign which will continue to show domestic abuse is not acceptable and will not be tolerated. The more people who help us to spread this message the better so I am very impressed with the posters and the campaign, which will complement our work very well and raise awareness of services available in the area. Providing positive success stories will, hopefully, give victims the confidence to come forward and seek help and support.”
