State of the Countryside Update: Sparsely Populated Areas

Our new State of the countryside update report focuses on the most sparsely populated areas of England in terms of their social, economic and environmental state and how these areas differ from other parts of country.

This report utilises our recent Rural Insights survey, which includes information about the views, attitudes and priorities of people living in these areas of the country, coupled with analysis of topics such as households without broadband coverage, employment and business,  affordable housing, fuel poverty and population migration.

The report then considers opportunities for: economic growth (with a focus on the new Local Enterprise Partnership initiative), affordable housing (based on the recent Comprehensive Spending Review), improving home energy efficiency (Warm Front), broadband speeds (all households with 2mbps by 2015) and community transport.
