European Entrepreneurial Region 2015 award launched

The Committee of the Regions has launched the 2015 European Entrepreneurial Region (EER) award which seeks to reward cities and regions with the most forward-looking visions in Europe. With applications being accepted until 31 March 2014, the 5th edition was opened by Mr Luc Van den Brande, (BE/EPP), Chairman of the Flemish-European Liaison Agency during the European SME Assembly in Vilnius.

The EER award identifies and rewards regions with outstanding entrepreneurial visions realised through concrete and measurable actions contributing to the implementation of the Small Business Act for Europe and making optimal use of public funding, irrespective of their size, wealth and competences. The regions with the most convincing strategy will be awarded with the label "Entrepreneurial region of the year". The aim of the initiative is to create and promote dynamic, green and entrepreneurial regions throughout Europe.

"SMEs are the driving force behind Europe's economic recovery. National, regional and local authorities must join forces to provide the right conditions for businesses to thrive. The EER initiative rewards European regions that are committed to creating environments where businesses can flourish. If you are ready to realise your region's entrepreneurial potential, I invite you to apply for the 2015 EER award", Van den Brande said.

The awarded regional strategy will be assessed over the following two years and the main results and achievements will be shared and discussed among regional and local authorities through the EER network.

The deadline for the submission of applications is 31 March 2014. The application form, a fact-sheet about the award, as well as further information, are available on the EER web page: www.cor.europa.eu/eer. For more information, please contact eer-cdr@cor.europa.eu.
