CQC statement on suspention of paediatric heart surgery at John Radcliffe Hospital

Yesterday the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust announced that it would temporarily suspend paediatric heart surgery at John Radcliffe Hospital. This follows four deaths since late last year. The trust has commissioned a review of the deaths to determine if there are problems with the care and treatment provided.

CQC last night released the following statement:

Roxy Boyce, CQC regional director, said: "We will monitor this situation extremely closely. It is reassuring that the trust has taken action to ensure the immediate safety of patients. This is high-risk surgery and the trust is taking the right steps in conducting a review."
