CBI comments on Government plans for public contracts

Commenting on remarks by Simon Hughes, Minister of State for Justice, that the Government is developing transparency clauses for public contracts.

Jim Bligh, CBI Head of Public Services, said:

“Private providers of public services have been calling on government to ensure
transparency in public contracts, so we welcome this announcement.

“Public services businesses operate in an industry that demands close public scrutiny, which is why we have proposed a range of measures including, the online publication of contracts, open book accounting and the extension of the National Audit’s Office remit.

“The Government itself often acts as a barrier to transparency, so we hope a new code of practice will tackle this head on.”
