Driving examiner strike: candidates to attend tests

The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) wants you to turn up for your driving test, despite the potential for strike action by driving examiners on Thursday 10 May.

You should still turn up for your test in case it can go ahead. Not all examiners are union members, and those that are might still turn up for work.

If there’s no examiner available for your test

DSA will book a new test appointment for you automatically. You’ll get details of your new appointment within five to ten working days.

You can find details about claiming out-of-pocket expenses at direct.gov.uk/drivingtestexpenses.

If you don’t turn up for your test

If you don’t turn up for your test, you won’t be able to claim out of pocket expenses if your test is cancelled. You’ll also need to rebook your own test.

If you want to cancel or change your test

If you want to change or cancel your test, you must do it by Friday 4 May to avoid losing your fee and having to pay again. Visit direct.gov.uk/changepracticaltest for more details.

Customer service centre

DSA’s customer service centre for practical tests might also be affected by strike action on Thursday 10 May. You’ll still be able to book, change or cancel your practical test online at direct.gov.uk/drivingtest.
