Spread the word & connect more rough sleepers to help
The more people that are aware of StreetLink, the greater the chance someone sleeping rough will be found and helped tonight.
Since StreetLink was launched last Christmas, over 3,000 individuals sleeping rough have been found by local services thanks to concerned members of the public.
It’s a simple truth that, if the public had not cared enough to act, many of these people may have spent longer sleeping rough – putting them at risk of violence and ill health.
How does it work?
You see someone you are concerned about. You tell us using our hotline, website or mobile app. We send the alert to a local charity or council run service and follow up to find out what happened. It’s not a 999 service but, by getting in contact and providing as much information as possible, someone stands a better chance of being connected to local help and support.
Why was it set up?
No one plans to sleep rough and, if you end up on the streets, you may not be aware of the local help available to you. If you end up bedding down at different times of day or night and moving from place to place, local charities may also be unaware of your existence.
Does it work every time?
No, sometimes people can’t be found by services. Or you might not see a change straight away because an individual has a longer history of rough sleeping and may require longer term support to leave the streets. But no alert is wasted; it is useful information for services to know.
How can I help?
This is where we can all play our part. The more of us that help to spread the word about StreetLink, the more eyes and ears local councils and charities will have when it comes to finding and supporting rough sleepers.
