The independent Committee on Standards in Public Life, chaired by Sir Christopher Kelly, yesterday published its submission to the government’s consultation on the proposal for a statutory register of lobbyists.
 

The key points made by the Committee in its response to the consultation include:

• Convincing reform of lobbying needs to address issues of real public concern. The Committee is not convinced that the transparency of multi-client consultancies is the issue of greatest concern.
   
• There should be a single regulatory body for lobbying with a single code of conduct. If is the current attempt at self regulation proves to be ineffective, some form of statutory regulation may need to be considered.
