Research suggests drop in digital radio energy use
The Government has today published the results of independent research on digital radio.
This includes research by Intertek into the energy consumption of radios, which shows that products are becoming more energy efficient.
In the models tested, the average in-use power consumption of tabletop DAB radios had dropped from 5.84 to 4.78 watts. The average in-use power consumption of portable DAB radios had also fallen from 4.68 to 3.14 watts.
Also published today is research into consumer behaviour and the public's willingness to pay for digital radios which has been carried out by London Economics and YouGov.
Thousands took part in surveys, focus groups and face-to-face interviews looking at ownership of digital and analogue radios, purchasing intentions and ways that people dispose of small electrical waste.
The results suggest that consumers are willing to pay for all the key attributes of digital radio and that 57 per cent of people would dispose of their analogue radios at recycling sites.
