Sustaining the pipeline of female talent in STEM from the classroom to the boardroom

It’s that time of year again; it’s time for the WISE (women in science and engineering) awards 2013! STFC are playing an active role in supporting the recognition of women in STEM and are sponsoring one of ten category awards at the event. It is a great opportunity to not only recognise, but to celebrate women in STEM careers and STFC are sponsoring the WISE media award (including social media) where; It Is Rocket Science, Dr. Lucy Rogers and the Life Scientific are shortlisted to be the lucky winner.

WISE have over 30 years’ experience of inspiring girls into STEM careers and aim to increase gender balance in the workforce by pushing the female presence from 13% to 30% by 2020. A diverse workforce will maximise creativity, innovation and competitiveness and to achieve this more females need to be attracted and celebrated in science and engineering roles.

Other awards that will be announced on the night include; WISE corporate leadership award, WISE advisor award, WISE diversity award, WISE girl award, WISE apprentice award, WISE excellence award, WISE enterprise and innovation award, WISE leader award and WISE lifetime achievement award. This last award is sponsored by Microsoft and our very own Dr. Uschi Steigenberger has made the shortlist, we would like to wish her the best of luck from all of us at STFC!

The event will take place on 14th November and awards will be presented by HRH, the Princess Royal. Tickets can be secured by calling Rebecca Winstanley, 01274 724009 or by visiting the WISE website.

We are proud to promote women in STEM careers and be a part of the 2013 WISE awards!
